Evidence Based Practices

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence based treatment centered around the science of behavior and use of various techniques to promote positive behaviors while simultaneously decreasing the likelihood of your child engaging in “bad” behaviors. Each treatment plan at FreshStarts utilizes these behavioral principles and techniques to help your child increase their communication, social and daily living skills, and lessen the occurrence of “problem behaviors.”

Oversight by Governing Boards

The Behavior Analysis Certification Board (the BACB) is the primary certifying organization in the world of Behavior Analysis and each certified member of the FreshStarts team has completed the rigorous coursework, field experience hours and Board testing required to call themselves a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). Each of our team members is bound by the BACB’s Code of Ethics and their pledge to protect and uphold the integrity of the field of Behavior Analysis. FreshStarts takes its commitment to these standards very seriously and is constantly working to ensure compliance among its own team members and to continue to promote compliance among all members of the ABA community!

The Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling is the governing body overseeing the work of FreshStarts’ licensed and interning counseling team members, and like the BACB, requires close adherence to their guidelines in order to practice.

Supervision

Building on oversight, FreshStarts follows the supervision guidelines from both governing boards, and then some. In ABA “supervision” can and should come in many forms, whether it’s face-to-face with your child or in the office via team meetings, ongoing trainings, or research projects, the certified team members of FreshStarts are focused on offering as much supervision, as often as possible to our aspiring BCBAs and BCaBAs!

Training

Developed by FreshStarts’ own Clinical Director, Jennifer Salazar, our five-day, intensive training program ensures that your child’s Breakthrough Partner is well versed in the practice of ABA! Unlike many other agencies in South Florida, FreshStarts employs our Breakthrough Partner team members (rather than using independent contractors), allowing FreshStarts to closely monitor our Partners’ work and ensure they are following the treatment plans in the in the way their Leader intends them to be followed. If upon hire one of our Partner’s is not already a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), FreshStarts provides them access to the 40-hour coursework required by the BACB and expects them to be RBT certified within our 90 day “Learning Period” in order to continue seeing clients. Ensuring that each of our team member is able to work effectively, ethically, professionally and confidently is paramount to the success of our programs.
